Vanishing Point

At my grandfather’s burial

His coffin was draped with the American flag

And two military officers played taps

It was a brutally frigid day

The coldness made my bones rattle

Made my spine take a back seat

I remember reading the eulogy

And crying

He’s vanished now

Even before he got to meet you
