No Need For Jongelinck, I Only Need You

Over the course of years

I have walked and wandered and wondered

I have played and prayed and portrayed

I have tried and failed and paid and even got laid

Over the course of years

Beyond these stories and fairytales and hymns

Beyond these sonnets and poems and lyrics

Beyond these written notes, text messages and phone calls

Over the course of years

I was leading something that was so false

But it all comes so clear to me now

I don’t need Jongelinck

I only need you

Eat Me A Banana

Take it all the way in

You eat it perfectly

Oh, so perfectly that even months after

I remember the moment

That you ate that banana

Once

I had no intention

To fall in love with you

There are times

When one cannot prevent such chance

Such circumstance and happenstance

When one cannot predict

Such connection and magnetism

I had no intention

To fall in love with you

There are times

When these feelings are beyond our control

Such feelings reside so deep

When these emotions are admitted

Such beauty and positivity could be had

I had no intention

To fall in love with you

There are times

When no matter how hard you try too not

Such emanating souls intertwine

When no matter how hard you try to avoid

Such passionate harmony exists

I had no intention

To fall in love with you

But now I’m in love with you

And I’ve written it down

So, you know

And everyone knows

Women of Sierra Leone

Like clusters of sugary cereals on statuesque aisles

Cocoa Puffs, Cap'n Crunch, and Lucky Charms in high piles

Between surrounding swordsmen from other conquering tribes

Searching for the mate who will become our brides

She'll judge our faithful eyes and loving courage

As we break free of our prison and bondage

She'll be our bona fide canon and lover of truth

Escape our sweetest tooth and honest youth

She'll be our milk and our honey forever

Interlace us and challenge us with the foremost endeavor

Our greatest ambition is to achieve such grace

And have her hand in such a place

To have that hand she must give all

Before he puts up the monumental wall

Leaving, Entering

One leaves

One enters

Like a revolving door

and escalators that go up and down

Like the life cycle of birth and death

and metamorphosis of caterpillar to butterfly

One leaves

One enters

Like changing seasons

and changing diapers

Changing clothes

and changing flights

One leaves

One enters

Like bubbles bursting

and snowflakes melting

Like bruises healing

and baby teeth falling out

One leaves

One enters

Like shooting stars entering the atmosphere

and day changing to night

Like the ocean’s high and low tide

and diamonds discovered among non-worthy gems

When one leaves

Another one enters

When one enters

The other has left

This is the cycle

The constant cycle of

Leaving and entering

Awareness

I am aware when my skin is damp

I feel the wetness surround me

Whether it be from the autumn rain

Or an ocean swell

I am aware when midnight strikes

Darkness blankets the earth

From the deepest terrain to the furthest star

My concealed eyes observe nothing

I am aware when new beginnings arise

Scents of blooming flowers penetrate

I hear the buzz of honey bees hover

Hummingbirds sing in orchestrated unison

I am aware when you are true

When your bravery is portrayed with tears

When your lips meet my lips

Time stands still and is envious

When these two souls engage

However,

I am unaware how far I should place

thee dagger into thy heart

I only hope its puncturing depth

will relieve this heartache I’m in

Labyrinth

My heart is guarded by a labyrinth

of spirals of razor barbed wire

Moats filled with electric eels and serpents

Iron plated stonewalls one hundred feet high

Barricades made of previous heart slayer’s skeletons

My heart is guarded by a labyrinth

of poisonous snakes and molten lava pits

Defensive positions by undertakers

Burning ambers and cliffs of fire

Towering embankments of victims past

My heart is guarded by a labyrinth

of sharp stalagmites and stalactites

Ruthless scavengers of the plains

Barriers of vast parched desert

Horrid echoing screams from the tortured

My heart is guarded by a labyrinth

of armed battalion volunteers

Ballistas and mangonels abreast

Columns of aimed artillery

Thousands of murder holes

My heart is guarded by a labyrinth

of nothing that can’t be conquered

Decimated and dismantled

Destroyed and disassembled

My heart

has been seized by you

Are You My Enemy?

State hung

Out of this first impression

Made a second

Stood on the corner of 1st and 1st

Feeding homeless near Grand Central

The man who itches, he twitches, he asks,

“Sir, sir, are you my enemy?”

In a calm voice, quietly,

I say “No, I am your son.”

Something We’re Not

When I was a baby

I was something I was not

When I was a child

I was something I was not

When I was a teenager

I was something I was not

When I was a young man

I was something I was not

When I was a man

I was something I was not

I am something I am not

And I am not something I am

Something I was and something I will be

Somethings are different and somethings are better

Better to be something than not something

And better to be something else than nothing at all

Something is better than nothing

And nothing could be better than something

If that something is something you are not

When I was something

I was not

And when I was not something

I was something

When something is wrong

Write something down

When something is written

Something is forgiven

And when something is forgiven

Something is not

And not something is still something

But something is not what I want

When all you want is something

Something else

And something you are not

Explaining Death

One day

The lonesome horseback riders

Drift upwards under the secrecy of the fog

Creeping from the hidden black sea

Ascend the rugged cliff sides

One day

Shed tears drown out a raven’s call

Extracted discoveries interrupted

Forgotten past brought forth

Torture until the end

One day

Taken and stolen

Ended while the koto was played

Buried without a granted wish

Snow blanketed the warm coffin

One day

There will be no one

To explain to you

What happened to me

And I’ll be gone

Unleash

Reveal the lion inside me

Let me roar an echoing proclamation

I’ll make shadows run for cover

As birds take an early migration

Water will flow upstream

Our ventricles will fill with hydration

The ground beneath us will quake

Swallowing our hearts with a radiant palpitation

End the eternal search

We have found our salvation

Allow these feelings to validate

Secrets turn into affirmation

I stand before you

I stand before everyone on this earth

I stand before every member of every nation

With my deepest declaration,

I proclaim –

Unleash my heart!

Knitting

I’ve taken up knitting

Because your nose is cold

Like a little kitten

I’ve taken up knitting

Because I’m knitting you a mitten

For your cold little nose,

My kitten

Unlock

With a wooden spoon, stir the tea

In a hidden safe, put away the key

Venturing into the unknown

No more days of being alone

Inside your heart I’ve started a fire

You’ll never forget my eyes of sapphire

No sense in blocking the unconventional

These emotions are multidimensional

Delete the borders and erase the distance

Surrender to your own resistance

I’ve escaped the artificial

Everything with you is beyond celestial

We’ll orbit the sun, the moon, and the stars

This warmth heals our internal scars

Our breathless silence shall pass

My affection for you will last

As witness to my eyes

I’ll harmonize your midnight cries

Put away your defense

Hand in hand we shall commence

This love is now for hire

Have I found a repeat buyer?

My heart is yours, I will never sever

Take it and occupy it forever

Complications Of Heart Surgery

Sadly, earlier today, artist David Greg Harth died of complications from heart surgery. Harth was scheduled for what was supposed to be a routine procedure. Harth was following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, when at the young age of 36, he was to undergo a triple bypass procedure at NewYork-Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center. While the surgery went smoothly, Harth never woke up from anesthesia while in the intensive care unit and died in a state of unconsciousness. Harth is survived by his loving wife and two children. There will be a public memorial held this coming Sunday at one of Harth’s favorite places for French toast, NoHo Star in lower Manhattan. The family requests that in lieu of words of sympathy or flowers, one could make donations in his name to the American Foundation For AIDS Research or The American Academy of Neurology Foundation.

The Emperor Has Returned

Emerging from silence

One thousand years forgotten

He becomes tranquil

Among past thieves

With pheasants roaming

And doves aviating

The Emperor has returned

Awakened from a deaf suspension

Awakened from a blind desolation

Emerging from secrecy

Time became irrelevant

He becomes euphoric

Among past maidens

With comrades commandeering

And enemies vanishing

The Emperor has returned

Awakened from a still coma

Awakened from a written dogma

Quest of the darkest deep

Shattering the ground beneath

Has interrupted this very sleep

His warriors end the pursuit

From latitude and longitude

They’ve given up the route

Endless to the very end

Beyond the cliffs of paradise

Only now he may transcend

The Emperor has returned

Awakened from an untimely death

Birthed once more into locus amoenus

With this kiss he has one more breath

Uncharted Territory

For over three decades

I have treaded in the ocean

I have surfed each available sea

I have searched multiple continents

And I have scurried lands far and wide

With each nautical map I follow

My sails have always led me towards you

My bow always pointed me towards you

Each direction given

Each wind blown

I was just a lost man on a voyage

Now found

In this uncharted territory

Beginning (Version #2)

Sometimes

The wind sweeps

And creeps up behind you

Knocks you off your feet

So unexpectedly

You drift and float

Into the sky

With the ground no longer in your sight

You just glide

From cloud to cloud

Riding the breeze

At the journey’s beginning

Frost

Frost

Chilling up my spine

Executing my mortality

Frost

Delivering the final blow

Echoing my dreams into eternity

Frost

Deleting my memories

My bones being pulled by gravity

Frost

Catapulting my fantasies

Interfering with my true destiny

Frost

Wishing I was never erect

My heart is always an empty cavity

Frost

Transporting my mind everywhere

Emotions in an uncontrollable velocity

Frost

Claiming what is rightfully mine

Taking early my innocent fidelity

Frost

Losing control to pressure

Giving up my sanity

Frost

Exquisite corpse cold to the touch

I have no immunity

Frost

Now that I’ve been dismembered and disemboweled

Love and Life is filled with absolute clarity
